FLORIDA — Days after a powerful low-pressure system moved across Florida Monday and Tuesday, bringing with it heavy rains, strong winds and damaging tornadoes, there’s more wet and wild weather in store for the state.

Another storm system and cold front will sweep across the Sunshine State Friday into Saturday with the possibility of a few strong to severe thunderstorms, the National Weather Service’s Tampa Bay office posted to X, formerly Twitter.

A small craft advisory has been issued for Florida’s Big Bend area from Thursday at 7 p.m. through 11 a.m. on Saturday, the agency said.

There’s a high rip current risk along much of the central west coast — from Clearwater to Fort Myers — through Thursday evening, and a hazardous weather outlook for Atlantic coastal waters, including south Florida beaches, is in place through Wednesday, according to the NWS.

Much of the state north of Sarasota is at a level 2 slight risk (of five levels) for severe weather Friday, NWS forecasters said. Further south, there’s less chance of bad weather over the next few days.

Cloud coverage will increase throughout the day Thursday with scattered showers developing to the south and moving north during the day and continuing overnight, according to the NWS.

“We may see a few breaks of sun for the first half of today but clouds will increase during the afternoon,” Denis Phillips, meteorologist for ABC Action News, wrote on his Facebook page. “Chilly temps in the 40s in the morning will stay cool during the day, warming only into the 60s. Expect showers to move in from the south after 4 p.m. and continue overnight.”

Winds will pick up overnight Thursday and Friday morning will see scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms, particularly along the Nature Coast, as well as increasing winds, NWS forecasters said.

“Damaging winds would be the biggest threat” during this storm system, Phillips wrote on Facebook.

Temperatures will also climb into the upper 70s, nearing 80 degrees, Friday afternoon, across Central Florida, ClickOrlando.com reported.

By Friday evening, a line of thunderstorms will move onshore from north to south, the agency said.

Showers will end during the day Saturday, slowing to the south first, ushering in cooler weather, according to NWS.
